When you arrive at Gongar Airport, you’ll be met by your private guide and assisted with your entry permit into Tibet. Then settle into your private vehicle for the drive to Tsedang check in your hotel. Afternoon if time permit visit Thraduk Monastery.

Inside Jokhang Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, admire the rich ornamentation, detailed murals and elaborately decorated chapels. Your guide shows you the most revered Buddha statue in Tibet, the Jowo Sakyamuni Buddha, cast from precious metals and decorated with glittering gems. Learn more about the history of the temple from your guide as you walk around.

After breakfast at hotel, travel with your guide to Norbulingka Palace, located west of Potala Palace. Constructed in the 18th century on the banks of the Lhasa River, Norbulingka Palace was the traditional summer palace for Dalai Lamas. Take a leisurely stroll through the large complex and gardens with your guide, and see the meditation room, bedroom and conference room of the 14th Dalai Lama, who fled from here in 1959.
After lunch at a local restaurant, drive a short distance into the foothills to reach Sera Monastery. Considered one of the great Gelugpa monasteries in Lhasa, Sera is known as a center of scholarship and continues to educate monks from all over Tibet. Your guide leads you around the complex and explains its architectural features and history. You may also be able to watch monks during their animated Buddhist philosophical debates in the courtyard (daily in the afternoons, except Sundays).

The 13-story fort complex is situated at 12,140 feet (3,700 meters) with views that overlook Lhasa Valley. First built in the seventh century and rebuilt in the 17th century, Potala has served as the winter palace for a succession of Dalai Lamas. Learn about the treasured historical and religious documents kept within the palace’s 1,000 rooms, including rare painted scrolls, sculptures, statues and colorful murals.
Take a rest and have lunch at a cafe after touring Potala Palace, then continue to Drepung Monastery, located just outside of central Lhasa. In the past, Drepung Monastery was one of the most prestigious Buddhist institutions in Tibet a powerful teaching monastery with thousands of resident monks. Tour the monastery with your guide before returning to the old city for the evening. If you’re interested, you can visit a Tibetan rug factory in Lhasa.
